Rumba Revolution
The food is the major element in the Rumba, unlike some other club restaurants in the River Market. The Rumba is the restaurant part of this great duo and the Revolution is the dance and live music club next door. The review is of the food so we won't be talking about the music, but you can check schedules on their site. The first thing that grabs you about Rumba is the bold design. The building is the red building at 300 Clinton that has hosted many clubs throughout its history. The inside decor matches the red outside. It's bold, trendy and fun.
The food is also bold, trendy and fun. My meal started with mango pico with spiced chips. Other appetizers include Little Rock queso, salsa, jerk chicken wings and smothered cheese fries. The mango pico was delicious and different and the chips were wonderful.
The restaurant calls itself Mexi-cuban however I, like many I'm sure, don't really know what to make of that. A quick glance of the menu shows that it's Mexican with a twist. The menu is heavy on fish but you can find favorites like enchiladas, quesadillas and empanadas too. Prices range from $10-15.
I highly recommend the tapas platter. You can choose 3 "small appetizers" for $7.99. They come presented beautifully and taste great. My only complaint is the fried plantains were a bit overdone. They also have sandwiches and salads.
The food is a bit spicy but not as spicy as "Tex-mex." Overall, this is a fun place to eat and the food is delicious!
