Browning's Mexican Food in Little Rock

Quick Review

About.com Rating 3.5

Browning's has been one of the fixtures in the Heights Area since 1946. They serve great Tex-Mex and their salsa is really interesting. Their dishes are not too spicy for those of you who like Mexican but can't stand the heat.

Guide Review

Whenever my sister comes into town, there's one restaurant she wants to visit: Browning's. Browning's has been serving unique Tex-Mex on Kavanaugh Boulevard since 1946.

My favorite thing at Browning's is the salsa. It's more like a sauce than the salsas at other restaurants, and it has a unique chili flavor unlike any I've tasted. It's not a hot salsa but it's still one of my favorites in Little Rock. I find the cheese dip a bit bland but it tastes like it's been flavored with chili powder a little bit too.

Their entrees are moderately priced. Expect to pay from $7-10 for your favorite Tex-mex meal including tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and other standard Mexican fair. The food is spiced sparingly. That's a plus if you like Mexican food but don't like things too spicy. Even though these dishes sound like standard Mexican food, they don't taste exactly "standard", which is one reason people crave Browning's.

The decor is very casual and so is the staff. They are very friendly and will try and make you comfortable.

Browning is located on 5805 Kavanaugh Boulevard in Little Rock. They're closed Sundays and Mondays and open from 11:00am-9:00pm on other days. Call (501) 663-9956 for more information.

The food was incredibly bland, it tasted like it was out of a freezer section in a cheap grocery store. The service was barely OK. Our server continually filled our water glasses with another water glass (clean or dirty I'm not sure) and she got our order wrong (we were her only table). I can make better Mexican food at home.

A coupon is the only reason we stayed. We already bought the coupon on restaurant.com. Too pricey, too plain, funny taste to the food, bathrooms were tiny, we couldn't even turn around in the whole room and the restaurant was old. I was so disappointed.
