Who:

Mike Huckabee was the governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007. He was only the third Republican governor of the state since Reconstruction. He is also a candidate in the United States presidential election of 2008.

Early Life:

Huckabee was pastor of several Southern Baptist churches in Arkadelphia, Texarkana and Pine Bluff before becoming a politician. He served as president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention from 1989 to 1991.

Campaign For Healthcare:

Huckabee was overweight and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2003. When diagnosed, he decided to turn his life around with exercise, including running in several marathons, and healthy eating. He also sponsored many health initiatives in the state including putting BMI on report cards, re-evaluating school vending machines and he wrote a book called Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork

Fun Fact - Capitol Offense:

Much like a former Arkansas presidential hopeful, Mike Huckabee is a musician. Huckabee plays bass guitar in a band called "Capitol Offense." The band was originally made up of members of his staff as governor. They have played a little during his presidential campaign.
