The lighting ceremony and parade are on December 6 in 2008. Admission to both are free.

The parade start at 3:30 and the route begins at 2nd Street and Broadway, heading south on Broadway. The parade makes a right turn west onto Capitol Avenue and proceeds up to the State Capitol Building, where the office of the Secretary of State will host an official lighting ceremony and fireworks show at approximately 6:00pm.

The Capitol light switches are flipped after that to usher in the holiday season.
