Birth of a Champ:

Jermain Taylor was born in Little Rock on August 11, 1978. He began fighting at the age of 13 in a local gym. His first fight ended badly ending with a severe beating and lecture from his mom but he pursued the sport anyway. At the age of 19 he won in the US under-19 championships. He went on to win two PAL Championships and National Golden Gloves titles and finished second and third at the 1997 and 1998 U.S. Championships respectively and a bronze medal at the 1998 Goodwill Games.

Olympic Success:

Taylor had dreams of competing in the Olympics after watching the 1996 games. His dreams were realized when he went to Sydney, Australia in 2000 and went home with the bronze medal. Taylor was the first boxer from Arkansas ever to compete in the Olympic Games. He turned pro in 2001.

His ring name is "Bad Intentions" but that doesn't reflect his personality. "Bad Intentions" reflects his persistent and aggressive fighting style. Taylor trains in Miami, Fl but still has a residence in Little Rock where he lives with his wife (sorry ladies, he's taken) and daughter. His wife is a former WNBA star.

Good Heart:

Despite his ring name, Jermain Taylor has a good intentions. Many people have said that he brought the heart back to the boxing with his love for the sport. He often makes himself available when he is in town to sign autographs, pose for photos and talk to fans. He also has a charitable heart and supports the Little Rock Boys and Girls Club and the healthy Arkansas initiatives to "stamp out smoking."
