Guide Review - 07/09
To further the casual, baseball feel, seating is very casual and relaxing. You'll want to hang out and watch the game. They show the Traveler's when they're playing so you can actually watch the game from the restaurant.
The food is the most important part of a restaurant and the food at Ump's is typical bar food with some throwbacks to Valentine's Italian restaurant. They have a good selection of old favorites and new items.
We tried the chicken wings ($7.95), Frisco Fried Pickles ($6.95), Laven Lasagna ($11.95), the Traveler Burger ($7.95) and onion rings ($2 with the burger). The chicken wings were good, but typical. The fried pickles were interesting and tasty, but probably not something any of us would order again. The burger and lasagna were both very good and the onion rings were superb.
If you noticed the prices, you'll notice another big difference from Valentine's. Food is more moderately priced at Ump's. Some of the special dishes like rib eye ($25.95) and Halibut ($22.95) are priced closer to the old menu, but you can now get a burger and fries for a good price when you visit the park.
I think Ump's is a positive change over Valentine's. Though Valentine's was more upscale, Ump's fits better with the ball park. I hope they do well there.
