1) "Sling Blade"
"Sling Blade" was the movie that put Thornton's name on the map. He wrote, directed and stared in this film about the release of a mentally handicapped man who has been hospitalized since the childhood murder of his mother and her lover.

 |
2) "Armageddon"
This is the better of the two asteroid movies that came out in the late 90s. The movie also stars Bruce Willis, Ben Afleck and Liv Tyler. An asteroid is heading towards earth and a group of astronauts have to save it. Thornton plays a member of the NASA ground team.

3) "A Simple Plan"
Three men find a million dollars and devise a "simple" plan to keep the money. However things turn dirty and they end up distrusting each other and eventually shedding blood. I love this movie's plot turns even though the ending became fairly obvious halfway through.

 |
4) "Primary Colors"
Although it's not supposed to be about Clinton, this movie strikes a familiar chord. John Travolta plays a philandering presidential candidate and Thornton plays his campaign manager. It's all about spinning and winning.

 |
5) "Homegrown"
Thornton is employed to grow marijuana for a kingpin who is suddenly murdered, leaving him and his friends with the farm and no boss. After a moment of panic, the naive trio decide to take over the business themselves. They aren't prepared for the responsibilities and dangers that come along with the job.
