Bill and Hillary's loving companion Buddy the Chocolate Lab was killed by a car near the Clinton home in Chappaqua, New York on Jan 02, 2002.
According to the Associated Press, Buddy was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon on Route 117, a busy two-lane road at the end of Old House Lane, the cul-de-sac that includes the ex-president's home.
Buddy was brought into Clinton family in 1997 and spent his puppyhood in the White House. Clinton received over 5,000 suggestions to name the puppy but finally named him after his uncle who had passed away earlier that year.
A typical Clinton, there was even a scandal involving Buddy. Cat lovers everywhere were upset when it was announced that Buddy would be moving in with the Clintons in New York and Socks, the Clinton's older cat, would stay with a friend in Virginia when the couple left the White House. Buddy and Socks never got along (even though they do have a book together) and the Clintons preferred Buddy.
The Clintons released a statement saying, "We are deeply saddened by Buddy's death. He was a loyal companion and brought us much joy. He will truly be missed."
Rest in peace on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge Buddy. You'll always be remembered by the people who called you first dog!
