Campers get a special behind the scenes tour that is only given on snoozes. Generally, this includes close-up encounters with some animals like giraffes and rhinos. You get so close, as a matter of fact, that you get to touch and feed them. You also get a program at the ampitheater where you get to meet and touch some other critters (like rabbits, possums and ferrets).
There are also plenty of animal suprises (last year the suprise guests included elephants, some hawks and a great behind the scenes reptiles tour). You never know what you're going to get!
Besides animal encounters, campers get smores, story time for the kids and a continental breakfast. Kids must be accompanied by an adult but there are plenty of zoo volunteers on hand to help you out.
Last year, a man told me that he loved the idea of pitching a tent at the zoo because it would get his young sons used to camping in a fun, safe environment that they knew so he could bring them on a real, woods campout someday. Some mom's spend the night, some say they look forward to the snoozes because it means the dad takes the kids for the night and they get the night off!
The price is just $30 per camper. Call 666-2406 ext. 124 to find out dates for this year. There are normally three snoozes in the warmer months. Register Online
