Get Your Blog On!

By Amanda Galiano, About.com

Want a blog of your own? As a long time blogger (I've had a blog since about 2000 in one shape or form), I've tried many blog services and programs. My first blog was all hand coded! Today, it's easy for people who don't know anything about designing webpages or using complicated scripting to get online and share their thoughts.

You can start out your blogging with something like Blogger or LiveJournal. These two applications let you have an online journal without installing anything or even having webspace (although you can use blogger on your own webspace). They are perfect for beginners!

If you want something with more power that you can install on your webserver you have many options. Moveable Type, Greymatter, B2 and Nucleus are all pretty nice. My group blog (Inside Delirium: PG-13 content) uses Greymatter. I've also used Moveable Type and Nucleus. I think I prefer Moveable Type and Nucleus to the others.

What does a blog look like? Browse some of the great Arkansas blogs and check it out for yourself. All Blogs are "PG-13" which means they may have adult language and subject matter or they may not. A blog is people posting about their lives so you can never be sure what the next post will bring.

If you have a blog and you're from Arkansas, email me at littlerock.guide@about.com and I'll link you.
