A friend of mine went to RJ Tao the other night and raved about the kangaroo. You heard me right. You can actually order kangaroo in Little Rock. I've only visited the restaurant once. It's been open about a year. I need to go back and try them again.
RJ Tao is kind of an Asian steak house, but they have a few exotic items aside from the kangaroo (and you can get roo three ways: burger, wontons and a steak). My friend described the kangaroo steak ($33) as "a steak, but more gamey." If you're not looking for an Australian outback meal, you can get kobe beef here ($55), falling sky chicken ($19) or a duck bacon BLT ($9). A few other exotic meats sometimes make the specials menu. I bet they are the only Asian place in the city that has grits and pork chops on the menu ($16). They also have fried rice ($10), "phad" thai ($13) and some more traditional Asian dishes and normal steaks ($22-29). One of my favorite things they serve is a chocolate fondue dessert ($15). The whole menu is on Facebook.
The ambiance here is funky in a good way. Featuring Buddha statues, some cavern-like booths and interesting lighting, it would make for a great girl's night. They have a nice tapas menu ($6-15). I liked the Parmesan Truffle fries ($6) and my friend said the tuna tartar ($13) was great. Any of the tapas would be nice to share over cocktails. It would also be a nice location for a date.
I think the reason I haven't been back is because my meal was a little pricey. Anyone else want to weigh in? What did you think of the kangaroo or anything else on the menu?
