This Weekend in Little Rock

By November 29, 2012

Follow me on:

This is one of my favorite holiday weekends in Little Rock.  It's the Capitol lighting.  It's the only time of the year they have fireworks over the Capitol.  They also have singers, a parade and, of course, lights.  Last year, the fireworks were skipped and it was kind of a bummer, but the weather is supposed to be great this year.

This week also features one of my favorite charitable events of the holiday season: CARTI's Festival Tree.  They have events all weekend (they actually started yesterday).

Also, it's the weekend for the live nativity in Van Buren.  This is really neat and runs for one weekend only.  It's free and going on twice a night (6 and 7 p.m.) at the Van Buren County Fairground.  They have live animals and actors.  It runs from November 27 to December 1.

Check out the holiday events listing for more information about any of these events or to see what else is going on (Santa is popping in at a lot of places this weekend).

Non-Holiday Events

  • Moonlight Madness Sale at Promenade at Chenal - Friday, the Promenade is having starting it's holiday weekend with great sale prices.  You don't have to be in the holiday spirits to want to shop!
  • Free Dad's Day at The Wonder Place on Saturday.  Dads are free with a child's admission.  The Wonder Place is located at 10301 N. Rodney Parham Rd, 501-225-4050.  Dads get in free today when they take their kiddos to splash in the water table, put on a theatrical production on the drama stage and more.
  • Eagle Watch Lake Tour at Lake Ouachita State Park on Saturday.  It's a little early for eagles, but there may be a few wintering here already.  501-767-9366.
  • Dollar Day at Museum of Discovery.  The first 1,000 visitors get in for $1 at the Museum of Discovery on Sunday.

The Little Rock Marathon posted on their Facebook a few days ago that hotels in the River Market are already selling out of rooms for that weekend.  If  you're planning to run the marathon, you better register! I'm sure registration will sell out soon.  It's not too late to start training for the half.
