Juanita's was nominated for Best New Thing in the About.com Reader's Choice Awards I guess it counts as new. They opened a new location in 2011, moving from their home of 25 years. I hadn't been to Juanita's since they moved, so I thought I would check out the food. The restaurant is downstairs from the music venue. I found out that the location may be new, but the food is the same good stuff Little Rock diners have come to know and enjoy.
Juanita's is well known for their cheese dip, and it tastes the same as always in their new location. I got the classic yellow, but they also have a white cheese dip. I think Juanita's food is a little under-rated. We always hear about Juanita's music, but I hardly hear anyone praise their food. They have a pretty nice selection of traditional Tex-Mex. Everything from the plato satillo to many enchilada platters and fajitas. For Arkansas, it's pretty good Tex-Mex. Click the more link for more photos.
The plato satillo is a beef enchilada, a cheese enchilada and a beef taco (above). Below is the plato verde, which is a spinach enchilada, a chicken enchilada and a soft chicken taco. Their green sauce was quite tasty.
Give them a try to see if you think they're best new thing too.
