This is the time of year I start thinking about Romance, AR. It's the time of year to starting thinking about getting those Valentine cards and upcoming wedding invitation remailed from the Romance Post Office.
Animal Planet has a new series that is making me thinking of Romance, AR for a different reason. "American Stuffers" premiered last Thursday. It's based on Xtreme Taxidermy, a taxidermy shop specializing in pet preservation.
Daniel Ross is the owner of the shop. The show takes you into his family life, and gives you some insight into the lives of people who want to preserve their pets. It also shows some of the gruesome details of taxidermy.
I didn't watch the whole thing, but what I did was interesting in a weird way. It was a little too much for me. I do often wonder, as a pet lover myself, about the oddity of wanting to keep your pet around when he's gone. It was kind of interesting in a morbid way to learn more about that decision.
If you want to watch a fellow Arkansan mount a pet 'coon (that's this week's episode), you have your chance January 12 at 9 p.m. on Animal Planet. The Thursday after next he's featuring a chihuahua.
