Weekend Wednesdays: Toyota's Farm to Table Tour

The coolest thing going on this weekend is the the Toyota Farm to Table Tour.  I say it's the coolest, but I've never been.  It sounds like fun anyway.  Toyota says:

Created in 2009, the Toyota Farm to Table Tour travels to farmers markets around the country to showcase the connection between chefs and the farmers that produce and sell locally grown ingredients. In support of all the benefits markets offer their communities, Toyota makes a donation to each partnering farmers market on the Tour.

Only 11 farmer's market nationwide were selected and the Little Rock market was one of them.

There will be bite-sized tastings from Capi Peck (Trio's and Capi's), Mark Abernathy (Red Door and Loca Luna), Kathy Webb (Lilly's Dim Sum Then Some), James Meadors (Fat Sam's Louisiana Cafe), Cynthia East and Jason Knapp (Arkansas Culinary School), Tim Morton (1620), Jacob Beck (Forty Two) and Donnie Ferneau.  That's some of the best food in Little Rock.

It's Saturday, July 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The food is supposed to highlight local ingredients.  Of course, they will have Prius and other hybrid Toyota cars for you to test drive, but it's all about the food for me!

I'm told the event is free and you get a culinary herb plant for free if you sample 3 chef's dishes.  That should be easy enough.

Other events:

  • Crusin' in the Rock is back.  It's July 16 from 6-9 p.m. in Riverfront Park
  • The Bountiful Arkansas event is Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17, on Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton.  It's also all about local produce.
  • The Tattoo & Arts Festival - Immersed In Ink starts on the 16th and continues through the 18th.  It's at the Statehouse Convention Center.
  • Argenta's 3rd Friday ArtWalk is held the 3rd Friday of the each month from 5p.m. - 8p.m.  The 16th is the 3rd Friday.
  • A FOCAL Book Sale is happening at the Main Library on Rock Street this Friday through Sunday during library hours.
