Dirty rooms, moldy bathrooms and weird smells await you when you check into the Velda Rose in Hot Springs, according to TripAdvisor's Dirtiest Hotels in the United States. Reviews cite moldy headboards, blood in closets and showers that would even make Norman Bates cringe.

The hotel has 53 one star ratings and most complain about the cleanliness of the hotel. Trip Advisor picked it's dirtiest hotels based on ratings and reviews from users.

The Hotel you are talking about is by far not the 8th dirtiest hotel in the US. I know the Hotel and although it was owned by a new owner without much people skills.

The mistake that was maid was she failed to return someones money that was not happy. That person had connections to Tripadvisor. I have traveled all over the US and believe me there are alot dirtier places than that hotel in question. I think they shot a sparrow with an elephant gun. Tripadvisor should be sued.

Anyway, she is out of business from that review.

Sorry that she lost her business (it looks like she sold it, I can still get a reservation there). I did look at other travel sites when I wrote this, and sites like Expedia and Yahoo Travel had the same kinds of complaints as TripAdvisor. (I just did a quick check now too, but being voted “worst” probably exaggerates the reviews).

What happened was that she gave it back to the bank. The bank operated it and then sold it at a big loss only recently.

Now as I said she was not the best by any means.

However when a company like Tripadvisor which claims to be an open forum makes such a devistating statement. Which is certainly not true when you consider all the dumps that are out there. They not only hurt such people they hurt the City reputation as well. Even the State.

No one company should have that damaging power.

When you consider that Tripadvisor owns Hotels.com, Hotwire, Expedia, etc. by no means are they an independant forum. The term antitrust comes to mind.

When you consider that anyone 13 years or older can place a review on Tripadvisor without ever even having been at the hotel, you can see the possible damage that can be done. Tripadvisor is the worst thing that has happened to the hotel industry, restaurants, etc.

Tripadvisor takes no responsibility for the damage made by them. Not the financial, not the loss of jobs, or other related damage.

Also, When you book with hotels.com,owned by Tripadvisor, You pay the price + tax. When the Hotel gets paid by them they pay 30% less and keep the tax on the differance. Causing local govenment to take a loss of 30% of that tax. All of these companies are owned by one person “Barry Diller”. You should do a real story on this crazy manipulation of the hospitality buisiness.

Barry Diller was paid $454,000,000.00 last year from these companies. He is a conman in the 1st degree.
