Eagle Awareness Events in Arkansas

Sunday January 4, 2009
January is eagle awareness moth in Arkansas, because Arkansas is a wintering weathering area for American bald eagles. Many nearby state parks are having events and eagle watching tours.

Every weekend in January, Pinnacle Mountain has eagle lake tours. Tickets are $10 and the interpreters take you around the lake, looking at eagles, water fowl and birds of prey. Pinnacle is probably the shortest drive for a guided eagle tour.

At Bull Shoals (near Flippin), Eagle Awareness weekend is January 9-10. They will have White River tours, guided bird walks, guest speakers, live bird demonstrations, kids' activities and live entertainment. Bull Shoal's is always a great place to go for eagles, and you're guaranteed to see at least one (if you go to the bird demonstrations).

Petit Jean, in Morrilton, is having a variety of programs, including field trips to nearby Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge to look for wintering bald eagles on January 10-11.

At the end of the month is the best event. January 30 - February 1 is Eagles Etcetera at Lake Degray (Bismark). They have live bird shows, eagle lake tours, guided bird walks and more. It's a huge events for the park and worth the drive if you're into eagles.
