Eating Local in Arkansas

Tuesday December 16, 2008
I know it's hard to think of fresh produce and grass fed beef when there's snow on the ground, but I thought I might mention that "eating local" can make a great gift. You can send someone you love a gift subscription to the Foodshed Farms basket a month program or a gift certificate to a great restaurant that supports local farmers. Some of the other farms on my list also have gift programs and baskets, but it may be too late for some of those.

A fun idea I found that's non-local but still in the same local eating spirit is rent mother nature. A few friends of mine are getting gifts from this fun project this year. You send in a fee to support the farm and, like a CSA, you get to reap some of the harvest. They have peaches, cows & goats (for cheese), berries. . . you name it.

Happy eating.
