New Nature Center Opens on December 17

Friday December 5, 2008
There will be a new nature center in downtown Little Rock next week. The center will be called the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center and it will be located at 602 President Clinton Ave, which is just a short walk from the Clinton Presidential Center. The center will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The wildlife center will focus on teaching residents and tourist about the diversity of Arkansas natural habitats and wildlife. It will feature six natural regions of the state: Ozark Plateau, Ouachita Mountains, Arkansas River Valley, Coastal Plain, Mississippi Delta and Crowley's Ridge. It is 16,232-square-foot and is on over 3 acres of land.

You can check out their website for information on what exhibits and information they will feature.

It sounds like it will be pretty cool and interactive. Arkansas Game and Fish says:

Visitors will follow water as it passes through a continuous series of living habitat exhibits – from a replicated mountain spring into the river’s main channel cypress swamps, delta marshlands and a bottomland hardwood forest. Each segment has been isolated with flow-through barriers that contain each habitat’s population of fish.
