Little Rock Marathon Training Week 10 & Great Running Blogs

Wednesday December 3, 2008
Angela emailed to ask if I was still training for the Little Rock Marathon. I am. This week (week 10) is supposed to be a 25 mile week with 14 miles on Saturday. I'll be doing the Saint Jude half marathon this weekend, which isn't exactly 14 miles. It's 13.1 miles. I say it is close enough.

I'm a bit nervous about it because I missed training quite a bit last week, but I did manage to do the 12 mile long day. Hopefully I'll survive to tell you guys what happens. I'm only aiming for a 12-15 minute mile. I should be ok.

In other news, I've found a new running blog to love. Don't get me wrong, I followed Cheryl Hicks of Arkansas Runner Girl closely last year as she was training for her first marathon. I love her blog, but sometimes she's a little too motivated for me. Even her bad times are awesome. I mostly kid (maybe I'm a bit bitter). I admit that she makes me feel like a slug, but I really do love her blog. If you're an elite trainer or looking for motivation, it's a must read.

For the rest of us who don't get that "runner's high" thing, I recently found Fat Chicks Running. I've only been reading this blog for a few weeks, but it's full of fun advice from the two "chicks" (Hogzilla is interested in the Little Rock marathon), plus a healthy dose of humor . . . and some slacking. It makes me feel like a slug too, but a slug in fine company. If you've gotta be a slug, you might as well have buddies.

Wow, Amanda! Thanks so much for the shout out!! Seriously, this was a super treat to wake up to.

I’m glad you’re enjoying our little experiment–we’re really enjoying tracking our progress and kevetching along the way.
