What's New at the Zoo: New Male Lion

Wednesday November 12, 2008
BakariThere's a new inhabitant at the Little Rock Zoo this month: a male lion named Bakari. He is still a bit shy, but he sometimes has access to the outside world. He's a young male and he's set to be a companion for our two lionesses, Sydney and Nyla.

As a young male, he doesn't have a big, voluptuous mane yet. It should grow in. It will be fun to bring kids to watch him as he reaches maturity. Maybe some day he'll be as big and lionely as KC was. KC was our last male lion. He is honored above the mantle in Cafe Africa. Cafe Africa was the "Cat House" many years ago, and it was where KC lived. The lion exhibit has come a long way since then.

As I said, Mr. Bakari isn't really out yet for the public to see. He's a bit intimidated by the ladies and the new environment. He should be coming out more and more throughout the winter season. He's just one reason to brave the cold weather and head to the Little Rock Zoo.
