On July 1 of 1955, the land was acquired to make Lake Ouachita State Park. Since then, it's become a favorite of anglers and campers. The 40,000-acres of park and water make an excellent are for all sort of outdoor activities from wildlife watching and hiking to fishing and Scuba diving.

The park is home to the historic "three sisters" springs which was once thought to have to healing properties. Ouachita is close to Hot Springs, Arkansas and much of the water there was once thought to be curative. The spring was first discovered in 1875, well before there was even a lake at Ouachita.

That's right, Lake Ouachita was not always there. It's the largest manmade lake in Arkansas and it owes it's pristine waters partly to that. A damn was constructed in 1954 that would eventually the lake we know and love.

Ouachita has always been a favorite cabin and camping site in my family. The waterways are easy to get lost in (on purpose and by accident). It's a very peaceful area. Even in the busiest parts of summer when the lake's beaches are crowded, I've found you can get some piece and quiet there.

Lake Ouachita is located in southwest Arkansas, near Hot Springs. You can click the title link to read more about Lake Ouachita.
