Nothing really interesting happened in state park history on June 20, but June 20 is a good time to visit Mount Magazine this year. June 20-21, 2008 is the Mount Magazine Butterfly Festival.

Magazine has 127 butterfly species and the the Diana Fritillary butterfly which is relatively rare in other parts of the country. The butterfly festival has been held every year since 1997.

Other than butterflies, Mount Magazine boasts the highest point in the state. It's peak is 2,753 feet above sea level. There is, of course, rock climbing, and many trails for hiking, biking, horses and ATVs. It's one of the most popular places in the state for hang gliding.

Mount Magazine is a fairly new park, being established in 1998. The lodge and cabins just opened in 2006. Mount Magazine is in Paris, about two and half hours from Little Rock. You can click the title link to read more about Mount Magazine.
