More On the "Wild" Dogs In Helena

Wednesday June 18, 2008
This story just gets more insane. Last week, I blogged about the mayor of Helena releasing dogs from the Helena shelter into the national forest. Understandably, the mayor has received calls and email about the decision.

Helena Daily World reports that the mayor is calling the people who have complained to him "un-American."

There was a complaint filed with the Phillips County sheriff's office by the Humane Society of Southeastern Arkansas accuses the mayor of animal abandonment, mistreatment and neglect.

According to the article, the Humane Society had been working with the mayor. Volunteers had helped water and feed dogs and expressed concern about their conditions. The director of the local Humane Society affiliate was told by the mayor that the dogs would be freed and asked for two hours to take the dogs off his hands, but said that, within that two hours, the dogs had been taken to the national forest and "freed."

Last time I checked the First Amendment had not been repealed….and dumping dogs was animal abuse.

This loud-mouthed jerk needs to get a new job…perhaps one involving asking if you want to supersize the fries.
