I don't know of anything exciting that happened on June 11 in state park history, but something exciting is happening this weekend. State parks make a fun and inexpensive way to treat your dad on Father's Day, and many are having special events. Pinnacle is not that far away from Little Rock (less than a tank of gas) and is offering inexpensive cruises for that special dad in your life.

Pinnacle Mountain is always a great quick "vacation." You can hike, The west trail up the mountain is about two miles and 2,000 feet above the valley. Even without a hike, you have a great view of Maumelle Lake, picnic facilities and facilities for special events. During the winter months, you can go on eagle cruises or other wildlife watching cruises on the lake. The park also has regularly scheduled educational programs.

Pinnacle Mountain was the state's first urban park and opened in October of 1977. The park was then only 1, 353 acres. It's now over 2,000 acres. Camping and fishing areas are available.
