A State Park A Day - Join Me On An Adventure That Starts Tomorrow

Sunday June 1, 2008
This year is not only Arkansas' 172 birthday, but also the 75th anniversary of our state parks system. State parks are a great way for an Arkansas family to experience a cheap and exciting vacation. You can't tell me you've been to all 52. Do you even know what all 52 of them have going on? It's not all waterfalls and trees.

On this anniversary year, I've made an effort to try and visit all of our state parks. I admit I haven't been successful yet, but I have done a lot of research and a lot of talking to interpreters over the course of this year.

Starting tomorrow, I'm going to take you all on an adventure. We'll visit a state park every week day all summer, learn a bit about their past, and see what they have to offer today. Some of our parks are historical. Some are natural. All are interesting.

I think it's important for us to know about the parks in our own backyards. Almost all of them are just a short trip from Little Rock. You don't have to go very far or spend a lot of money to have a nice vacation with your family.

The only Arkansas state park I haven’t visited (yet) is Moro Bay. (Of course, the last time I visited a few of those parks was twenty years ago, and most of those parks have improved considerably since the 1/8-cent sales tax was passed.) You’ve hit on an interesting project, though your entries don’t provide enough information about activities, fees, and facilities.

Most of the blog posts are links to a profile on the park with more information on the park.

The nature of a blog is to be short and sweet. Sorry if that wasn’t clear. I’ll make sure to make it more clear on subsequent posts!
