Investment firms to buy Alltel for $24.8 billion

Monday May 21, 2007
Sometimes it's easy to forget that the telecommunications giant, Alltel, has it's coporate headquarters right here in our city. They employ a great number of Little Rock residents. This weekend, two investment firms have agreed to acquire Alltel Corp., the fifth-biggest U.S. wireless company and owner of the nation's largest geographic network, in a deal worth $24.8 billion. Early reports say that this will not negatively impact jobs.

In other big business news, Acxiom Corp. announced late Wednesday that it would accept a $3 billion buyout offer from Silver Lake Partners and ValueAct Capital Partners. The purchase by these two private entities would move Acxiom from a publicly traded firm to a private company. This change should also have no effect on jobs according to Company Leaders.
