Covenant Marriage

Monday February 14, 2005
The Governor and his wife converted their marriage to a Covenant Marriage on February 14, 2005. If you missed the controversial event at Alltel Arena you can get a summation of both sides of the issue in the Northwest Arkansas Times.

Basically, what a Covenant Marriage does is make marriage more strict. Couples choosing a Covenant Marriage must attend pre-marriage counseling prior to receiving a marriage license. They also have to agree that they will seek counseling before a divorce will be granted. A divorce can only be sought if:

1) The other spouse committed adultery
2) The other spouse has committed a felony and has been sentenced to death or imprisonment
3) The other spouse has physically or sexually abused the spouse seeking the divorce or a child of one of the spouses
This is simplification of the actual act, but you get the idea. It's much more complicated than I thought it was. If you're looking to join the Governor, you better be in for the long haul!
